Annual Awards Presentation Evenings 2003
This year, for the first time ever, we had to split our presentation evening into two because of the number of teams now operating throughout the club. This is because unfortunately there is nowhere locally that can house over 600 people. Therefore our first awards evening covering the u7ís through to the u10ís was held on May 23rd and the event was repeated for the u11ís through to u15ís on June 6th. Both presentations were held at Hucknall Community Centre in Hucknall. The awards evenings this year were a major milestone in our history with them being our 25th. There cannot be many youth clubs that can better this remarkable achievement.
Vote of Thanks
|The first vote of thanks went to an elite group of people who, without them, there would be no Hucknall Sports sides. They are our team managers and deserve all our plaudits, because if they did not take on this vital role the club just would not operate and there would be no football teams. To all our managers and assistant managers we are deeply indebted, thank you one and all.||
Alwyn Sears, club secretary, receiving an award from the President Derek Day for services to the club
Also a big thank you went to our industrious secretary Alwyn Sears who deserves all the credit for keeping the club on an even keel and also to our treasurer Mal Wheat for all her work keeping a watchful eye on our finances. Our youth club leader Brian Shaw , assisted by Howard Wright and Ray Toop were also thanked as were all of our hard working committee. In whatever capacity you have provided help it is truly appreciated.
The club also thanked a small army of helpers including parents, grandparents, friends and supporters. All help with transport, the putting up of nets, kit washing, refereeing, running the line and many other tasks. You all help to make our club work, and on behalf of Hucknall Sports we would like to thank you all. Finally thanks went to all the young people for coming along each week to play for Hucknall Sports. We hope you enjoy your football and are proud to put the shirts on. Thanks to you all whatever your age group.
Guests of Honour
Our first guests of honour for both evenings were going to start with Doug & Joyce Sheldon, who along with Derek & Bob, were founder members of the club. Unfortunately however they couldn't be present as Doug had recently been taken ill. The club wished him a speedy recovery.
We welcomed and thanked Phil & Mollie Shrewsbury. Phil is currently on the youth coaching staff at Leicester City & we are indebted for the help that he has provided over the years to the club and still does in a number of different ways. We also welcomed Brent & Joy Taylor who have played an active part in the running of the club over a number of years with Joy having took on the role of Treasurer. We are indebted to their help over the years that they have provided.
In honour for presenting our 2003 awards evenings Shaun Derry (left) and Willis Francis (right) were presented with gifts from the club. Zak Flint, captain of the Under 10's, presented the award to Shaun whilst Nick Ward, captain of the Under 12's, presented the award to Willis.
Our main Guests of Honour to present our awards were Shaun Derry of Crystal Palace for the first evening and Willis Francis of Notts County for the second evening. Shaun is a local lad from Basford who played for Nottingham City Boys & Notts FA. Shaun has previously played for Notts County, Sheffield Utd and Portsmouth before moving on to Crystal Palace. Willis is a local lad who has recently graduated from the Notts County youth team and is now a member of the first team squad.
